Dry Fruits & Nuts — Line 02
Almonds
Indian Mamra and Gurbandi for the premium trade, Californian and Australian varieties for volume. Raw, blanched, sliced, slivered or roasted.

About the nut
Not all almonds are the same nut.
The commodity almond most UK buyers see is a large, uniform Californian kernel bred for yield and shelf life. It is a fine industrial ingredient. But the Indian Mamra and Gurbandi varieties — smaller, plumper, noticeably higher in oil — taste like a different food, and they carry a premium in the gifting and health markets that repays the extra cost per kilo several times over.
We supply both, and we will tell you plainly which one your product needs. If the nut is going to be blanched, milled into flour or buried in a coating, paying for Mamra is money you will never see again.

Buying notes
Where almond money is won and lost.
Almonds are the highest-volume nut line in this range and the one where buyers most often pay for the wrong thing. The three decisions that actually matter are variety, format and whether your process needs a validated kill step. Everything else is negotiation.
Mamra is a different product, not a better grade
Mamra almonds are smaller, denser, higher in oil and noticeably sweeter, and they carry a premium in gifting and traditional Indian retail where the buyer knows the name. Californian varieties — Nonpareil, Independence, Carmel — are larger, more uniform and far better suited to high-speed retail packing, blanching and slicing. Paying a Mamra premium for almonds that will be blanched and slivered is money the consumer will never taste.
Count is the size grade
Almonds are traded on count per ounce: a lower count means a larger kernel and a higher price. Specify the count rather than the word “large”, and specify it in writing, because a supplier working to their own definition of large is a supplier you will disagree with later.
Aflatoxin and the ready-to-eat question
Almonds sit in the higher-risk group for aflatoxin, and Great Britain sets tighter maximum levels for product that is ready to eat than for product that will undergo further sorting. If you buy at the sorted-category limit and then sell as a retail snack with no sorting step, you have created a compliance problem that did not exist when the goods shipped. Decide which category your finished product falls into before you agree a specification. There is more detail in aflatoxin and UK nut imports.
FAQ
Questions buyers ask
What is the difference between Mamra and Californian almonds?
Mamra almonds are smaller, denser, higher in oil and sweeter, and they command a premium in gifting and traditional Indian retail. Californian varieties such as Nonpareil, Independence and Carmel are larger and far more uniform, which suits high-speed retail packing, blanching and slicing. Neither is simply better — Mamra is worth its premium only where the consumer recognises and tastes it.
What does the almond count mean?
Count is the number of kernels per ounce and it functions as the size grade. A lower count means a larger kernel and a higher price. Always specify the count numerically in writing rather than describing the size in words, because "large" means different things to different suppliers.
Do you supply blanched, sliced or ground almonds?
Yes — whole natural, blanched, sliced, slivered, diced and almond flour. Processed formats have a shorter effective shelf life than whole kernels because more surface area is exposed to oxygen, so tell us your turnover and we will advise on pack format and whether nitrogen flush is worth taking.
Are your almonds tested for aflatoxin?
Yes, on every lot, at origin before the goods ship, with the certificate tied to the consignment you receive. Almonds are in the higher-risk group for aflatoxin and Great Britain applies tighter maximum levels to ready-to-eat product than to product destined for further sorting, so we agree which category applies before quoting.
Can you handle allergen segregation?
Almonds are a declarable allergen and we pack and ship them accordingly, with allergen statements issued on request. What we cannot do is control cross-contact inside your facility, so if you run allergen-free lines tell us at the enquiry stage and we will discuss pack format and delivery sequencing.
What is the minimum order?
One pallet per line. On a first order we will accept a mixed pallet across two or more lines so you can trial several products without committing a full pallet to each.
What testing is done before shipment?
Aflatoxin, pesticide residue, moisture, microbiology and foreign-matter screening as standard, certified against the lot you are buying. We test at origin before the goods ship rather than after they land, because a failed consignment sitting at a UK port costs far more than the testing ever did.
Who handles importing and customs?
Aarleez Ltd is the importer of record. We clear GB import controls and quote delivered duty paid to your address in sterling, so the number you accept is the number you pay. Ex-warehouse collection is available if you would rather run your own leg.
Can you pack under our own brand?
Yes. Retail-ready and private-label packing is available from origin, including nitrogen flush where shelf life matters. Send your artwork and pack format and we will quote the packed price rather than a bulk price plus a vague conversion cost.
