About the material
Saponins, and the smell nobody warns you about.
Fenugreek is standardised on furostanolic saponins, and 50% is the specification the majority of the finished-goods market is built on. Higher standardisations exist and are usually unnecessary; below 50%, the dose required starts to make a capsule format awkward. We supply seed extract with the saponin figure measured and reported per batch rather than carried forward from a specification sheet.
The practical warning is olfactory. Fenugreek contains sotolone, the compound responsible for the smell of maple syrup and curry powder, and it is extraordinarily persistent. It will scent a blending room, it will carry into neighbouring products stored in the same space, and at high enough doses it becomes detectable on the skin of the person taking the finished supplement. None of that is a defect. It is simply the single thing first-time fenugreek buyers are most often unprepared for, so we say it up front.

Questions buyers ask
Why does everything smell of maple syrup?
Sotolone. It is naturally present in fenugreek and it is one of the most powerful odour compounds known — detectable at parts per billion. It is not a contamination issue and it will not harm the product. Plan for segregated storage and, ideally, run fenugreek at the end of a blending campaign.
Which specification should a sports formulation use?
50% saponins is what the majority of the market uses and what most published dosing is built around. The 4-hydroxyisoleucine grade is a different proposition aimed at glucose-positioned products and is quoted separately.
Do you supply a debittered grade?
To order. Debittering reduces the characteristic bitterness for food and beverage applications, at some cost to the saponin figure, so tell us which of the two matters more in your product before we quote.
What is the minimum order quantity?
Twenty-five kilograms per specification, which is one standard fibre drum. Mixed consignments across two or more extracts are accepted on a first order so you can qualify several actives at once without committing to a full drum of each.
What documentation ships with the goods?
Certificate of Analysis for the specific batch, a heavy-metals and microbiology report, a pesticide-residue screen, and the commercial set: packing list, commercial invoice and certificate of origin. Allergen, GMO, vegan, halal and BSE/TSE statements are issued on request.
How long does delivery take?
One to two weeks from order confirmation to a UK address for material already in a finished, tested lot. Bespoke specifications that require a fresh production run take longer, and we tell you the honest date at the quotation stage rather than after you have committed.
